Recently there has been increasing interest in why these differences exist. Despite this, several studies have demonstrated that prices for generic statins (one class of cholesterol-lowering drug) are higher in Australia compared with England and many other developed countries, and prices of numerous other generics remain higher than in the USA and New Zealand. From 2005 to 2010 the Australian Government responded to observations that Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme prices for many generics were higher than in numerous comparable countries by instituting several reforms aimed at reducing the prices of generics. WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT THE TOPIC? Prices of generic drugs have been the subject of much scrutiny over recent years. The results suggest that particular policy areas may benefit from review in Australia, including the length of the price-setting process, the frequency of subsequent price adjustments, the extent of price competition between originators and generics, medical professionals' knowledge about generic medicines and incentives for generic prescribing. Major differences in demand-side policies related to generic prescribing, pharmacist substitution and consumer incentives.ĭespite recent reforms, the Australian Government continues to pay higher prices than its English counterpart for many generic medications. Significant supply-side differences included aspects of pricing policy, the relative size of the generics markets and the use of clawback policies. Related terms were searched in academic databases, official government websites, national statistical databases and internet search engines.Īnalysis of drug reimbursement prices for 15 generic molecules (representing 45 different drug presentations) demonstrated that Australian prices were on average over 7-fold higher than in England. market approval, intellectual property protection of patented drugs, generic pricing policy, market size, generic supply chain and discounting practices) and demand-side (consumers, prescribers and pharmacists) factors. Various search topics were identified addressing potential supply-side (e.g. Next, a literature review was conducted to identify supply- and demand-side factors that could affect generic prices in Australia and England. To assess the degree to which reimbursement prices in Australia and England differ for a range of generic drugs, and to analyse the supply- and demand-side factors that may contribute to these differences.Īustralian and English reimbursement prices were compared for a range of generic drugs using pricing information obtained from government websites. This indicated that the existence of pseudo-generics in the PBS market can negatively affect the consumers' welfare in terms of unnecessary extra expenditures for originator medicines that have cheaper identical alternative brands. This resulted in an average of AUD$4.44 per item of unnecessary extra-costs paid by the patients for purchasing the originator medicines. A total of 10.1% of the pseudo-generic substitution recommendations were declined by the patients. About 10% of the substitution recommendations were involved switching of originator medicine to its pseudo-generic alternatives. The pharmacists offered brand substitution for 96.4% of the prescription items which eligible for substitution. Responses were received from 82 pharmacies for a response rate of 16.4%. Brand substitution which involved identical alternatives of the originator medicines were identified based on the manufacturers' information stated in the Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). The data of the first 25 original PBS prescription items dispensed on one working day and eligible for generic substitution were collected from each pharmacy. A national mail survey was conducted among 500 Australian community pharmacies from different geographical areas in year 2008. This article documented the Australian community pharmacists' brand substitution practices using identical alternatives (pseudo-generics) and the patients' acceptability.

Perpendicular bisector on a line segment can be constructed easily using a ruler and a compass. The perpendicular bisector of a triangle is considered to be a line segment that bisects the sides of a triangle and is perpendicular to the sides. A perpendicular bisector is a line that divides a given line segment exactly into two halves forming 90 degrees angle at the intersection point.Important Notes on Perpendicular Bisector Can be only one in number for a given line segment.Any point on the perpendicular bisector is equidistant from both the ends of the segment that they bisect. In an acute triangle, they meet inside a triangle, in an obtuse triangle they meet outside the triangle, and in right triangles, they meet at the hypotenuse. The point of intersection of the perpendicular bisectors in a triangle is called its circumcenter. They intersect the line segment exactly at its midpoint. They make an angle of 90° with the line that is being bisected.Divides the sides of a triangle into congruent parts.Divides a line segment or a line into two congruent segments. The important properties of a perpendicular bisector are listed below. Perpendicular bisectors can bisect a line segment or a line or the sides of a triangle. The perpendicular bisector of a triangle after construction is shown below.XY, HG, and PQ are the perpendicular bisectors of sides BC, AC, and AB respectively. All the three perpendicular bisectors make an angle of 90“ at the midpoint of each side. Repeat the same process for sides AB and AC.This is the perpendicular bisector for one side of the triangle BC. Label the points of intersection of arcs as X and Y respectively and join them.Repeat the same process without a change in radius with C as the center. With B as the center and more than half of BC as radius, draw arcs above and below the line segment, BC.Draw a triangle and label the vertices as A, B, and C.The steps of construction of a perpendicular bisector for a triangle are shown below. There can be three perpendicular bisectors for a triangle (one for each side). The point at which all the three perpendicular bisectors meet is called the circumcenter of the triangle. The perpendicular bisector of the sides of the triangle is perpendicular at the midpoint of the sides of the triangle. It is not necessary that they should pass through the vertex of a triangle but passes through the midpoint of the sides. The perpendicular bisector of a triangle is considered to be a line segment that bisects the sides of a triangle and is perpendicular to the sides. Rupture of the tendon of the long head allows the biceps muscle to sink lower in the arm, creating a “Popeye” deformity. The biceps is prone to injury, particularly the tendon of the long head and the distal tendon which inserts into the radius. The biceps is the main supinator of the forearm (which helps us rotate the palm up and down), and helps the brachialis and brachioradialis in bending the elbow. The biceps is named for its two heads – short and long. Tendonitis is common in the 1st dorsal compartment, commonly called De Quervain Syndrome or “Mommy thumb,” due to its incidence in mothers of young children. The abductor pollicis longus passes through the 1st dorsal compartment of the wrist. It helps fill the first webspace between the thumb and index finger and weakens with severe cubital tunnel syndrome or other lesions of the ulnar nerve. The adductor pollicis’ primary role is to provide power for pinching. The name of this muscle is derived from the Greek word for earthworm. The main role of the lumbrical muscles is to allow the fingers to straighten, although they can also help bend the MCP joints, which are at the knuckle. This fundamental function of the human hand is lost in severe carpal tunnel syndrome when the median nerve is damaged. It helps pull the thumb away from the index finger, while rotating it, so that the tip of the thumb is opposite, or “opposes,” the tips of the other fingers. The opponens pollicis performs one of the most important functions of the human hand: the ability to bring the thumb away from the fingers so that we can grasp objects. The abductor pollicis brevis pulls the thumb away from the index finger, and the flexor pollicis brevis bends the thumb toward the small finger. It is comprised of three muscles: the abductor pollicis brevis, the flexor pollicis brevis, and the opponens pollicis. The thenar muscle group is found at the base of the thumb, forming the muscle bulk on the thumb side of the hand. The opponens allows us to cup our hands, bringing the small finger towards the thumb. The flexor allows the small finger to bend at the MCP joint. The abductor allows the small finger to pull away from the ring finger. They form the muscle bulk on the small finger side of the hand. The hypothenar muscle group is formed by three muscles: the abductor digiti minimi, the flexor digiti minimi, and the opponens digiti minimi. This action provides strength and stability when pinching. In addition to pulling the index finger away from the middle finger, it also pulls the thumb towards the index finger. It forms the contour between the thumb and index finger when looking at the top of the hand and is often the first muscle to shrink in patients with severe cubital tunnel syndrome due to damage of the ulnar nerve. The first dorsal interosseous muscle is the largest and originates from the 1st and 2nd hand bones. The palmar interossei pull our fingers together. While all interossei bend the MCP joints, the dorsal interossei allow us to spread our fingers away from each other. There are four dorsal and three palmar interossei muscles. The interossei muscles begin between the bones of the hand. Hand Muscles Interossei (dorsal and palmar) Other muscles, like the skeletal muscle that moves the arm, is controlled by the somatic or voluntary nervous system. There are different types of muscle, and some are controlled automatically by the autonomic nervous system. Muscles are groups of cells in the body that have the ability to contract and relax. The title of the sorrowful hymn is an incipit of the first line, Stabat mater dolorosa. Of two hymns, Stabat Mater Dolorosa and Stabat Mater Speciosa, Stabat Mater usually refers to the first, a 13th-century Catholic hymn to Mary, variously attributed to the Franciscan Jacopone da Todi and to Innocent III.
